Althea-Imperial Programme

OPEN TO ALL FEMALE STUDENTS

 

£10,000 prize

A development programme with a £10,000 top prize for female Imperial students to develop their entrepreneurial & innovative ideas. The Althea-Imperial Programme has been set up to recognise the innovative approach, entrepreneurial spirit and leadership skills of female undergraduates and postgraduates at Imperial.

The Programme and its associated prize have been designed to encourage female students, through a series of exclusive development and mentoring opportunities. As individuals or by leading a team, you will have the opportunity to see an innovative project through to fruition.

CDT Dragon's Den

OPEN TO POSTGRADUATES

 
£20,000 prize
This Dragon’s Den style competition offers seed funding of £20k to the winning team that will allow them to begin the commercial development of a scientific idea/invention unrelated to their PhD projects. The competition includes bespoke training and mentorship by the Imperial College Business School and external entrepreneurship experts.
 

Faculty of Natural Sciences Make-A-Difference!

OPEN TO UNDERGRADUATES FROM THE FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES, plus team members from other faculties

 
An 8 week funded lab placement, plus up to £6,000 in prizes

The FoNS competition is a chance for Undergraduate students to put their ideas into action. The competition runs in 3 stages and involves students working in teams to develop low-cost technology that could have a visible impact on Society. The top teams are given funding, lab space and a bursary to work on their project for 8 weeks over the summer. Examples of potential projects include:

  • An app that can predict crop yields in remote rural areas
  • Cheap diagnostic technologies at the point of care
  • Mathematical modelling to predict portable water purification systems
  • Sensors for pollution monitoring, health checks and disease detection
  • Novel technologies to improve the lives of the elderly and those with disabilities

Institute of Global Health Innovation: Annual Student Challenges Award

£5,000 top prize

The annual Student Challenges Competition is a Dragon's Den style event run by the Institute of Global Health Innovation.  The competition offers Imperial students the opportunity to showcase their research and to win prize money to fund their idea for a new global health innovation.

For example:

£5,000 of prize money is awarded to the top project, which will have the opportunity to visit a potential research site abroad to implement the project idea.  Runners up prizes are also awarded.

Venture Catalyst Challenge

OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS

 

£10,000 top prize

A program to test the commercial viability of early-stage science and technology ideas. Turn your innovation into a tangible impact in the world- a viable career in itself.

Since its inception, participants of the VCC have raised £11m in proof-of concept funding and have gone on to participate in 12 accelerator programs, selling everything from dental practice management software to DNA research engines for genetic experimentation. Very few started with anything more than a team and an idea.
