The Cross Country and Athletics Club provide support and training for anyone interested in running at imperial. We cater for all levels of runner; from causal joggers all the way up international athletes in all disciplines of the sport (road, track, field, cross country, trial, mountain, fell). We have a lively social scene running alongside our training and can provide advice on development within all aspects of the sport.

Teams and successes

The club has won medals in BUCS competitions on the track and road over the last few years, including two 10,000m silvers, one 5,000m silver, and an historic 1st, 2nd 3rd place in the Marathon! Outside of BUCS the club has sent runners to the European U20 Championships, British Championships, as well as elite start fields in many road races across the UK. Finally, runners have also competed into the UTMB series of races around Mt. Blanc and other high level off road races across Europe.

On a slightly lower level, the club partakes in Europe's largest student relay race in Hyde Park each year, as well as sending teams to other student relays around the UK and Europe. Large groups of Imperial runners have entered into the London, Paris, and Amsterdam Marathons over the last two years. On the shorter road distances over 40 runners have competed in the Brighton 10km for the last two years, as well as large numbers of the club attending races such as the Silverstone Half Marathon. There is also plenty of opportunity to take part in Cross Country and Track meetings between other London Universities throughout the year.

The majority of training is based around both Hyde Park and Holland Park, however some sessions can take place at the Linford Christie Stadium in White City and the Millennium Arena in Battersea Park. There are also long Sunday runs along the Thames in Fulham/Hammersmith.

The club utilises Thames Valley Harriers run sessions for Sprints, Middle and Long distance on Tuesday's and Thursday's at 19.00. The club also organises their own sessions at the track where Thames Valley Harriers train on Wednesday at 13.00 and Sunday at 10.00.

These times are subject to change, so please check with the club for exact details.

A large proportion of coaching is done by runners with many years experience running, competing and coaching. The club works closely with coaches at Thames Valley Harriers for more specific and advanced coaching. If you require specific contacts for coaching either email the club or speak to them in person.
