Season ticket loan
If you are a member of staff whose appointment has at least six months to run, you are eligible to apply for an interest free season ticket loan for travel from your home (normal residential address) to your workplace by rail, underground, bus, or other approved public carrier. General salary advance
We will consider a salary advance to you in the following circumstances:
a) at the beginning of employment, pending your first month’s pay;
b) to cover initial accommodation expenses if you are a new starter with us e.g. a deposit on rented accommodation;
c) on compassionate grounds e.g. to pay funeral expenses.
In other exceptional circumstances, an advance may be approved by an HR Adviser/Manager.
Salary advance for UK immigration application fees
We are able to provide an interest free loan facility to assist you if you are:
a) a current or prospective (must have been issued with an offer of employment or conditional offer) non EEA staff member and your dependants with payment of UK visa fees and/or Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) costs or
b) a current non EEA, EEA or Swiss national staff member and your dependants with payment of UK residency application fees or Citizenship costs.
i-Cycle - Sport Imperial and the Payroll department have joined forces and together bring you an interest-free cycle loan. You are entitled to borrow up to £2,000 to purchase a bike. Find out more.
Bike Pool Scheme - provides you with the opportunity to loan a bike for free, for a maximum of 5 days at a time. This will provide an alternative to public transport and is to encourage you to give cycling a go. There are eight bikes of various sizes available to hire, including two folding bikes, and all bikes come with a helmet, high-vis vest, 2 panniers and a D-lock. Find out more.
Your future retirement might be the last thing on your mind, but giving consideration to your pension provision now will benefit you greatly when you do retire. The College offers three contributory pension schemes to its eligible staff:
- Superannuation Arrangements for the University of London – SAUL
- University Superannuation Scheme – USS
- National Health Service – NHSPS
For each of these schemes the College also contributes a percentage of your pensionable pay in order to guarantee your benefits. In addition to this benefit, joining one of the pension schemes will give you immediate life cover, an inflation-proofed pension and long-term illness cover.
The cost to you is not as much as you might think and with the option, for those joining USS or SAUL, to contribute via PensionSMART, our salary sacrifice scheme, both you and the College make savings in the amount of National Insurance contributions paid. As your salary will be reduced by the amount of your pension contribution, you will pay lower National Insurance contributions than you would otherwise and your take home pay will be slightly higher as a result.

We recognise that as a working parent you must meet large childcare costs for your children under five, for which there is limited state assistance. Consequently we offer support in the form of free childcare vouchers to eligible parents through the childcare support scheme, with the opportunity to purchase further vouchers through salary sacrifice.
When considering joining the above mentioned scheme, you should be aware that a new Government-run scheme is being launched called Tax-Free Childcare (TFC). TFC will be rolled out in such a way that allows the youngest children to enter the scheme first, and all eligible parents will have access to the scheme by the end of 2017. As part of the College’s commitment to supporting working parents, the current free childcare voucher and Computershare voucher schemes will remain open to new entrants and existing members until April 2018 to give you the option to either apply for Tax-Free Childcare or to apply for, or in the case of staff currently in the above mentioned schemes to continue to receive College free vouchers and Computershare vouchers. The College will continue to administer the free childcare voucher and Computershare sacrifice voucher schemes for existing members up to 2023. Give as You Earn (GAYE)
The College has entered into an arrangement with the Charities Aid Foundation whereby you may make donations to named charities, by automatic deductions from your salary. Payments up to a certain amount are tax free.

The Bupa Eduhealth Essentials cover is the specially rated private medical insurance scheme for the education sector. The special rates offered by Eduhealth equate to approximately 55% of the equivalent price for non education staff.
