Once you have booked your place at the Graduation ceremony and purchased your guest tickets, the College can produce letters to support your Visa applications. To request this letter, please complete this form and submit it to the Graduation Team.

Please note we cannot issue a visa letter for you or your guests until you have booked your place at the Graduation Ceremonies and purchased your guest ticket(s).

Do I need to purchase a ticket for my child / baby?

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and as such may not be suitable for young children.

Any children over two (other than babies in arms) must have their own seat inside the graduation hall/venue and a ticket must be purchased for them when purchasing all other guest tickets.

How do I hire my gown?

Gown orders for the Postgraduate Ceremonies will open at the same time as registrations.  Please remember that academic dress is compulsory for Imperial College's graduation ceremonies and you will not be allowed to enter the hall if you are not wearing academic dress.

Details on how to hire your gown online will be provided in your email invitation.  By confirming your attendance at graduation, you are agreeing to wear official Imperial College London academic robes provided by our robing company Ede & Ravenscroft Ltd at the ceremony.

On Graduation Day

How do you get to Imperial College London and the Royal Albert Hall?

Imperial College London's South Kensington campus is located off Exhibition Road. You can find full address details on the campus map. The closest London Underground Station is South Kensington and Gloucester Road (which is served by the Piccadilly, Circle and District lines). The Royal Albert Hall is located opposite South Kensington campus, on Kensington Gore.

If you are travelling by public transport, please make sure you check in advance that your form of transport is running that day.  The Transport For London Journey Planner website can assist in planning your journey.

Will the ceremonies be live streamed?

Yes, please go to the Graduation homepage to watch live streams of the ceremonies as they happen on the day.

Where can I smoke?

From 1 August 2017, all Imperial campuses and properties will be smoke-free. This means that smoking will not be permitted on or within 20 metres of College land.

The Smoke Free Policy requires that people smoke off campus and away from our buildings.  As our campuses are in close proximity of residential homes, businesses and schools we ask staff and students to be mindful of the health and well-being of our neighbours.

Please note the use of e-cigarettes is not permitted in any College buildings.

Is accommodation available close by?

Please view the College’s Local hotels in and around the area if you need to book accommodation for yourself or your guests. Please note that the Graduation Team cannot arrange this for you.

Is parking available at the College?

Unfortunately there is no car parking available on campus or at the Royal Albert Hall. There are a small number of blue badge spaces on campus which are allocated on a first come, first served basis to blue badge holders. Please email the Graduation Team: graduation@imperial.ac.uk to discuss your requirements.

There are a number of pay and display NCP Car Parks within the vicinity of the College.

How do I hire my gown?

Details on how to hire your gown online will be provided in your email invitation.

Please remember that academic dress is compulsory for Imperial College's graduation ceremonies and you will not be allowed to enter the hall if you are not wearing academic dress. Please note our official Imperial College London academic robes are provided by Ede & Ravenscroft Ltd.

Further information will be made available in February 2018.

What should I wear for the ceremony?

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and therefore smart dress is appropriate. Shorts, jeans and trainers are not appropriate attire for graduands or their guests. Graduands are welcome to wear traditional or national dress. Gowns are designed to be worn with shirts. You may wish to bring safety pins to secure the gown in place.

What time does my ceremony take place and how long does it last?

The ceremony times for the 2 May Postgraduate Ceremonies are:

10:00 The Faculty of Engineering

13:15 Imperial College Business School

16:30 The Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Natural Sciences

Ceremonies will last approximately 90 minutes each. Departmental receptions are held on South Kensington campus immediately following the ceremony (lasting approximately 90 minutes).  We recommend that you go straight to your department reception after your ceremony.

Are the seats allocated for the ceremony?

Seats are allocated in advance for both graduands and guests in separate areas of the Royal Albert Hall. Your ticket will identify your seat by door, area, row and seat number. Please note that you will not be seated with your guests. Please ensure you sit in your assigned seat, as occupying the wrong seat will disrupt the presentations. Please note that both student and guest tickets are non-transferrable.

Are children allowed to attend the ceremony?

Yes, children can attend. Please bear in mind that the ceremonies are of a formal nature and around 90 minutes in length.

All children over the age of 2 will require their own seat inside the Hall and therefore a guest ticket must be purchased for them. Babies up to 2 years of age do not require a ticket.

Where can I have my graduation photographs taken?

Professional photography will be available on Graduation Day. Please visit the Photography page for further details.
