Luke Blair

Luke Blair joined Imperial College London in September 2016 as its first Vice-President of Communications and Public Affairs. In this role Luke is a member of the President’s Executive Group and reports directly to the President, Professor Alice P. Gast.

Luke is the senior lead for the College’s communications activity, including media relations, public affairs, publications, digital, and internal communications. He also represents the College externally on communications issues, ensuring it maintains its influence in relevant sectors, in London, the UK, and internationally.

A former political correspondent, Luke spent 10 years in journalism before his career in PR. He began working for local newspapers and subsequently spent five years at Westminster working for the Evening Standard, among others, in the 1990s.

He then had roles at London First, the Design Council, and the PR consultancy Fishburn Hedges, where he was seconded as media relations manager for the introduction of congestion charging in London in 2003.

He then joined London Communications Agency, and over the next 13 years became an equity partner and board director of the agency, and undertook a number of interim leadership roles, including Director of Communications for NHS North West London, Transport for London, the Local Government Association, National Car Parks, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and several roles in hospital communications teams.

Luke has also been part of the Cabinet Office communications review team, a PR industry judge, and a trustee for a homeless charity.

He has attended Harvard Business School and Ashridge Management College, and graduated in English from Reading University. He lives in North London and has three children.
